R&D Specialist, Lignin Operations

We are looking for a R&D Specialist, Lignin Operations RoD to our Biomaterials Innovation team. This position is based in Stockholm but can also be in Karlstad or Finland and you will report to RoD Team Manager Lignin Operations.

 

 

The Biomaterials innovation organization focuses on identifying business opportunities and developing new products in markets for renewable materials and bio-based chemicals. Our aim is to work closely with our customers to understand their strategies and devise solutions to support and boost their competitive advantage.

Lignin Operations is a newly started team with the ambition to become the center of excellence within lignin quality and production technologies, supplying current and future businesses with raw material. The team is located both in Finland and Sweden, today consisting of research, technology, and production competences using available and new techniques.

 Responsibilities

 

As R&D Specialist, your main focus is planning, executing & reporting of R&D projects and activities in lignin product & process development. Initiating & introducing new R&D solutions/approaches is a vital part of your task. You will also act as process and product specialist in internal and customer interphases.

Qualifications 

 

  • Post graduate degree or equivalent knowledge
  • (MSc) and 4-5 years of R&D or production experience (MSc) or PhD degree with special competence in the areas of wood chemistry, pulping technology or other processes related to lignin production.
  • Experiences of lignin chemistry combined with process chemistry within relevant field, or experiences of production systems and technologies.
  • Curious, pragmatic and solution driven team player with an industrial mindset.

We promote hybrid way of working but expect person to present at the office/mill on average 3 days a week depending on task on hand; ability for reasonable amount of business travel is part of the position requirements.

The Biomaterials division meets the growing demand for bio-based solutions to replace fossil-based and hazardous materials. Stora Enso uses all fractions of biomass, like lignin, to develop new solutions. Our work to replace fossil-based materials includes novel applications such as carbon for energy storage, bio-based binders and bio-based carbon fiber. Our pulp offering encompasses a wide variety of grades to meet the demands of paper, board, tissue and hygiene product producers, as well as materials from process side streams, such as tall oil and turpentine from biomass.
