Safety Manager

We are looking for a safety leader to drive and develop our safety culture and our safety agenda at Honkalahti sawmill.

Your role will be to continuously improve the mill Safety culture and awareness about risks, hazards and safe working methods. The focus is to align and intensify our efforts in Occupational Health and Safety to reach our ambitious Safety targets.


The main responsibilities for the position will be: 


-    Drive the mill Safety Action plan to be prioritized by the Mill Director
-    Active member of the Mill management team
-    Minimum 80 % of working time is allocated to Safety and possibly IMS for the remainder time
-    Lead the implementation and development of the processes of Stora Enso Safety Toolbox
-    Coordinate Safety audits and inspection of facilities, machinery and Safety equipment to identify and correct potential hazards and to ensure Safety regulation compliance
-    Support investigation of accidents, near-miss incidents and occupational injuries to determine causes and install preventive measures
-    Coordinate employee Safety reporting and programs, including review of short and long term strategic Safety planning and development
-    Enforce compliance of the rules and regulations that applies for the mill based on:
     o    Applicable local safety laws and regulations
     o    Group and division Safety procedures
     o    Output and findings from e.g risk assessments and incident investigations   
-    Spends his/ her working time 50 % minimum in the mill e.g. training, observing, coaching and investigating


The position reports to Mill Director for Stora Enso Wood Products Oy Ltd. Honkalahti samill.

-    Bachelor or Master level degree in technology 
-    5 years of experience with very strong connection to Safety Management
-    Thorough knowledge of occupational health and safety related laws and regulations
-    Finnish and English, due to networking and training personnel in start-up phase
-    Knowledge about best Safety practices, leading continuous improvement initiatives to reduce work process risks and the ability to raise Safety awareness
-    Very good know how of MS Office and Outlook
-    Knowledge about Integrated Management Systems 
-    Ability to build trust and confidence with management and employees on all levels
-    Analytical skills and persistence in order to get things done
-    Ability to cooperate, having a natural interest to involve people and support others
-    Coaching skills 
-    Excellent and clear communication
-    Flexibility, able of coping with stress and a fast-paced working environment
