Nordic Corporate Affairs Manager

We are looking for a Nordic Corporate Affairs Manager to join our Corporate Affairs team. Your location will be in Helsinki and you will be reporting to SVP Corporate Affairs.

About the position:

 

The impact on business from international, EU, and domestic policy, as well as from public scrutiny related to sustainability, increases continuously. This creates both opportunities and challenges for Stora Enso. Given our high sustainability ambitions, the growing focus on sustainable forestry, including biodiversity, is an important example of the need for dialogue between policymakers and all relevant stakeholders, including business. Several other policy areas are also highly important to Stora Enso’s business. For instance, the circular economy (including packaging, plastics, construction, and textiles) and climate change. For all these topics, forests, and products therefrom are part of the solution to societal challenges. Stora Enso wants to be recognized as an active and constructive player in the circular economy, climate, and biodiversity-related policy discussions. We want to strengthen our ability to analyze, impact, and act in this field with the help of a Nordic Corporate Affairs Manager.

 

As the Nordic Corporate Affairs Manager, you will work within Finnish, Swedish and EU policy, with a particular focus on emerging and ongoing Finnish and Swedish policy and legislative initiatives that affect the forestry, climate, and circular economy sectors.  You will work within a team of six, primarily to support our work in Finland and Sweden, but also to support other team members as required.  This role actively obtains information and communicates with stakeholders, alliances, and policymakers.  We make our sustainability information easily available for those who develop regulations and policy approaches.

 

The Nordic Corporate Affairs Manager will provide timely internal forecasts of monitoring of policy changes affecting Stora Enso and suggesting next steps to the team.  To do so, you will need to gather and review current trends and horizon scan for upcoming policy developments, identify opportunities and draft responses to parliamentary, government, EU, or other organizations, monitor the political environment, and identify and develop relationships with important stakeholders and decision-making groups.


Key responsibilities of the role are:

 

•    To work with the Senior Vice President of Corporate Affairs and Head of Finnish Stakeholder Relations and to develop Finnish and Swedish public affairs strategies to further the aims and objectives of Stora Enso. 
•    To support and work with the whole Corporate Affairs team on various issues affecting our divisions.
•    To recommend appropriate tactics for effective engagement to raise awareness and strengthen our reputation with key policy-makers and decision-makers.
•    To horizon scan for upcoming policy developments and activities.
•    To support in preparing high-quality briefing materials for political audiences and senior internal stakeholders to support the delivery of Corporate Affairs priorities.
•    To identify opportunities and draft responses to parliamentary, government, EU, trade associations and other consultations.
•    To monitor the political environment and feedback timely intelligence to all relevant internal staff. Track the progress of legislation and other parliamentary activities.
•    To help develop and maintain public affairs contacts in parliament, government, EU institutions and with other stakeholders.
•    To develop specific materials and briefing documents.
•    To develop and manage contact management database, assessing information and acting on it where necessary.
•    To communicate our corporate affairs work internally.
•    To represent Stora Enso at relevant stakeholder meetings, deputising for more senior members of the team if required.
•    To carry out any other duties and projects appropriate to the post as required.

Qualifications

 

Are you the one? 

 

•    This role will fit someone who has recently started a career in governmental or public affairs or policy-related work but has a couple of years of experience
•    BA or MA degree within a relevant field (i.e., Political or Social studies, Law studies, Marketing, Communication, Sustainability).
•    You understand of external political environment and developments.
•    You have excellent native-level verbal and written communication as well as presentation skills in Finnish and Swedish are a requirement. You communicate fluently in English.
